We are a family oriented kennel developing our own line of Ryman Type English Setters. Brock is applying his career in equine genetics to a passion of breeding genetically superior English Setters. We have an equally weighted formula for breeding based on personality, natural hunting instincts, structural conformation, health and biddability. Our dogs spend time hunting in the field and share time in the living room. They are very close working dogs keeping their handler in eye site when ever possible. We hunt our dogs on multiple species of upland wild game birds, including ruffed grouse, pheasant, prairie chickens, quail and partridge.
These classic foot speed hunters have been known as Ryman type for their close working hunting style and wonderful personality. If you want something that stays close and hunts for you in the field rather than over the horizon these dogs could be what you are looking for. They are on the large size with females ranging from 50-55 pounds and males from 65-75 pounds on average. In heavy CRP out west, these guys bust through it and are large enough that you can see them working in cover. Back east, in the grouse covets they come back and work according the the thickness of the cover. They check back, whether coming back to you or just taking a look to make sure you are there. Nothing better than being able to watch the dogs work!!
With several generations of careful breeding, staying true to Lavarack lines, paying attention to conformation, hunting style, personality and biddability our dogs now have our stamp on them. It’s been rewarding over the years to watch our line emerge. They are efficient, elegant and effective. We could ask for no better partner in the field or home.
The conformation of a dog is more than the looks. It is what allows a dog to move effortlessly in the field. The breed standards were written by experts with an eye for these dogs to effectively hunt in the field. If built according to breed standards their stride will have extension and drive, no wasted motion or extra wear and tear on the joints, this should produce a dog that holds up well on each outing and over it’s lifetime.
We encourage you to come out and see our operation. Meet us and the dogs and visit our facilities. We look forward to meeting anyone interested in these wonderful dogs.
